Simon Holloway
Behind The Scenery
About the Artist and Exhibition:
Simon Holloway started painting seriously in 2018 after the birth of his first child - with the realisation that his creativity needed redirecting from the late night Melbourne music world he had previously inhabited. In his new home, with new baby strapped to his chest, he took to walking the streets and tracks of Lorne, returning each day with inspiration for painting. From here, Behind the Scenery developed.
The show is the tip-of-the-iceberg exploration of the every day reality, history and community of a famous, and famously picturesque, holiday town on the so-called surf Coast of Victoria.
Simon has an eye for light and surprising beauty. He revels to us what we love but take for granted - and honours it appropriately. With his unique perspective on the town, he also explores ideas around contemporary social influence on space and place.
Simon lives in Lorne with his partner Anna, their two babies and extended family. This is his first solo show.
Simon would like to acknowledge and express his deepest respect for the Gadubanud and all regional Aboriginal custodians and communities of this ancient sacred land.
